How to use it

Fill in the fields, press Generate, and copy or save what you like. Press it again for a fresh set. I keep saved ideas in your browser and nowhere else. Pick a name type, gender, kanji count and meaning tag, then press Generate. Each result shows the romaji, the kanji and a short meaning. I write family names first, the way Japanese names are written.

How I build the results

I pick a given name and a family name from short lists of common Japanese-style names, and I show both the given-first and family-first orders.

What to expect

These are hand-written samples of the style, not live results.

How do Japanese names work: kanji, romaji and meaning?

A Japanese name has a family name and a given name, and it is usually written in kanji. Romaji is the same name written in Latin letters. Each kanji carries meaning, and one name can be written with several different kanji, so a meaning is a common reading, not the only one.

Frequently asked questions

Are these real Japanese names?

They're built from common Japanese-style names, but I don't verify kanji or meaning. Ask a native speaker before you publish.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. I designed every tool to work on small screens, with large tap targets and results that wrap instead of scrolling sideways.
