How to use it

Fill in the fields, press Generate, and copy or save what you like. Press it again for a fresh set. I keep saved ideas in your browser and nowhere else. Use Length and Starts with to narrow things down. I sort results best first, and Remix builds a new set from any result.

How I build the results

I cut each name at every sensible point and join the front of one with the back of another. I drop pieces under three letters and anything identical to a source name, then remove duplicates and sort the easiest to say first.

What to expect

These are hand-written samples of the style, not live results.

What is a name mixer, and what is a portmanteau name?

A name mixer joins parts of two to four names into new blended names. A blend like this is called a portmanteau, a word made by merging the sounds and meanings of two others. It works for friends, groups, pets and characters.

Frequently asked questions

Why do some blends look odd?

Blending is mechanical. I sort the best-sounding ones first, and pressing Generate again gives you more.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes. I designed every tool to work on small screens, with large tap targets and results that wrap instead of scrolling sideways.

What should I know before using this?
